Mrs. Joyce S. Wharton

Mrs. Joyce Shore Wharton was born on March 26, 1919 in East Bend, NC to the late Willie Lee and Maggie Glenn Shore. She departed her earthly life on June 7, 2011.
Mrs. Wharton was a faithful member of Glenn’s Chapel AME Zion Church, until her health began to decline over the last three years. She was a member of the Deaconess and Missionary Board and sang with the choir. She retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company.
She was preceded in death by her spouse, Mr. Monroe C. Wharton, her parents, two sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by her only son, Earl (Ida) Wharton; three grandchildren: Earl (Jennie) Wharton, Janet Parsons and Lisa Elliott; three great-grandchildren, Darren (Mary Jo) Wharton, Brian Wharton and Justin Parsons and two great-great grandchildren, Jaden and Dylan Wharton. She also leaves to cherish her loving memories two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Carrie T. Shore and Mrs. Anna C. Shore and two brothers-in-law, Mr. William (Watina) Wharton and Mr. Richard Wharton and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, June 10 at Glenn’s Chapel AME Zion Church with Pastor Dorothy C. Kelley, officiating. The family will visit with friends 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
