Miss Patricia McFadden

Miss Patricia McFadden, “Tricia” as she was affectionately called by her siblings, was born on July 28, 1956 in Kingstree, SC to the late Arthur McFadden, Jr. and Bernice Nowlin McFadden. She attended the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and graduated from Parkland High School. She is an alumnus of Montreat-Anderson and Mars Hill Colleges, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work. Patricia was employed for over 18 years in Early Childhood Education positions. She was also employed as a Resident Manager for Family Services, Winston-Salem Battered Women Shelter for more than 9 years.Tricia was a member of St. Marks Missionary Baptist Church and faithfully attended the St. Mark Women’s Fellowship. Tricia enjoyed reading, painting, drawing and writing beautiful poetry. Those who knew and loved her will cherish many fond memories but especially her service to others. She passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, March 30, 2015. Ms. McFadden is survived by her mother, Bernice Nowlin McFadden; sisters: Shirley McFadden (Stacy) Goodson, Beverly McFadden and Ashley Jones; brothers: John McFadden and Ronnie McFadden of Oceanside, CA; along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at St. Mark Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will greet friends 30 minutes prior to the service.

Mr. Milford Goldsmith "Butch"

Mr. Milford Lewis Goldsmith “Butch” was born on July 22, 1948 in Greenville, SC. He was one of eight children born to the late Wilton and Eloise Kilgore Goldsmith. Butch attended the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County public schools and graduated from Carver High School. He served in the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War receiving a Purple Heart. Mr. Goldsmith was an employee of RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company retiring after 35 years of service. Butch was a member of the East Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He passed away on Monday March 30, 2015. Butch is survived by his loving wife, Paulette; 3 daughters: Monica (Chris) Goolsby, Chirae Dubose and Jana Goldsmith; 5 sons: Kevin (Felicia) Goldsmith, Steven Goldsmith, Christopher (Brandi) Hairston, Milford Goldsmith, II, Alexander (Michelle) Rice, II; 18 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; T.C. Kilgore, a very close cousin, a host of relatives and friends. A service in his memory will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, 4259 Northampton Drive.

Mrs. Geneva B. Brown

Geneva Anita Bland Brown, innovative teacher, principal, administrator and former member of the Board of Education for the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system passed peacefully at home at age 84 on Thursday, March 26, 2015 following an extended illness. She was born April 18, 1930 in Goldsboro, North Carolina to the late Charles and Theresa Bland. She is preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Wendell Delworth Brown, and two sisters, Rose Marks of Goldsboro and Billie Smith of Los Angeles, California. She had been a resident of Winston-Salem for 63 years and worked in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System since 1954. She received a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and Master of Science degree in Education at NC A&T State University. She received her certification in Elementary Education at Winston–Salem State University and certification in School Administration from UNC-Greensboro. She studied at UCLA for 6 six years prior to opening Moore Laboratory School in 1971, the first magnet school in Winston-Salem. Early in her career, she taught art and was the coach for girls’ sports in Sampson, NC. She was a teacher at the Woodland Avenue/Brown Elementary School prior to becoming principal at Mebane Elementary School. She was chosen to open Moore Laboratory School, the school system’s first open concept, non-graded multi-age grouping, year round school. She retired from Moore after 19 years and retired from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System after serving at the central office for 2 years. She was elected to the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Board of Education where she served for 18 years. She served on numerous committees and boards in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree in 2004 from Wake Forest University. In addition to being Principal of the Year, she was recognized for her service on the NC Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Highland Avenue, since 1955, serving as a Sunday School and Bible Study teacher, Trustee, Deaconess, and member of the Women’s Service Council. She was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and was director of the AKA annual golf tournament for 10 years. An avid golfer with 14 trophies, she announced the top 30 golfers in the world at the Master’s Tournament in Augusta for 3 years. She is survived by one daughter, Dr. Wynne R. E. Brown and her partner Kathleen Ann Werner of Clemmons; two grandsons, Jerry Cooper II of Winston-Salem and Wendell Tyler Cooper of New York City; one sister, Harriet Bland Thomas of Pittsburgh; two nieces, Trevonia Brown Gaither of Winston-Salem and Nina Christian of Richmond; best friend Peggy Tesh of Winston-Salem; friend and caretaker Pat Martin of Winston-Salem; other family, including numerous nephews, countless teachers, students and “her community”. Public viewing and visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM at Clark S. Brown and Sons Funeral Home on Saturday March 28, 2015. A private graveside will be held. Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Simon G. Atkins Academic & Technology High School. Mr. Kenneth L. Heath

Kenneth Louis Heath was born February 5, 1932 in Summerton, Jamaica, West Indies and took his rest on March 17, 2015 after an extended illness. Kenneth leaves to cherish their memories: his wife, Mildred Heath of Winston Salem, NC; daughter, Maureen (Herbert) Hill New London, CT; sons: Vincent Heath of Winston Salem, NC; Anthony (Tina) Heath of Vineland, NJ; John (Tasha) Heath of Greensboro, NC; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sisters: Zetilda “Zeti” Warburton of Queens, NY; Lasylvia Heath of Texas; Yvonne Heath of Springfield, Jamaica; brother, Nathan Heath of Canada; a surrogate son, Jeffrey Burgess and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral service for Mr. Heath will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 23, 2015 at Ephesus 7th Day Adventist Church. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. Mr. Earl Lee Davis, affectionately called “Big Earl,” was born to the late George Davis and Lucille Brown Davis in Winston-Salem, NC on November 27, 1942.
He attended the public schools of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County and graduated from A. H. Anderson Senior High School. He was a former employee of RJ Rey-nolds Tobacco Company.
Earl departed this life at Wake Forest Baptist Health Center in Winston-Salem on Sunday, March 8, 2015, following a period of illness. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Devoria J. Weaks Davis; a daughter; his grandson; and many aunts and uncles.
Those who survive and who will forever celebrate the life of “Big Earl” with fond memories, include his daughter, Syehilver J. Davis; son, Daren Weaks; grand-children Donald M. Stowe, IV and Jadakess M. Stowe; his sister, Carolyn Hamp-ton; two brothers, Willie (Sandra) Hampton and Ralph Hampton; his aunt, Ella Lena (Miles) Graham; a close family friend who was always there to help, Vickie Majett; Sister-in-Christ, Caregiver, “God-Sent” Angel and very close friend, Carolyn A. Scales; and a very close friend who traveled wherever Earl was to see how his brother was doing, Nokomia Keaton.
A service in his memory will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 21, 2015 in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home. The family will greet friends 30 minutes prior to the service.

Mrs. Jessie R. Davis

Mrs. Jessie Ruth Davis was born on May 8, 1932 in Forsyth County to the late John Calhoun and Coria A. Fair. She graduated from Atkins High School and attended Russell Culinary School in Winsotn-Salem, NC. She retired from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System.
Mrs. Davis transitioned to her eternal life with Jesus on Wednesday morning, March 4, 2015 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home following a brief illness. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Camilla McClellan and her sister, Dorothy M. Fair. She leaves to cherish their kind and loving memories two children: Chico (Cynthia) Fair of East Bend, NC and Derrick (Toni) Fair of the city; five grandchildren: Frenchie L. Brown, Derrick Fair, Jr. Shaquania Henry, DeShawn McClellan and Chico Dominique Fair; four great grandchildren; one God daughter, Janet Robertson Price; a devoted friend, Sharon Fair and a host of other friends. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, March 7, 2015 in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 11:00 AM until the funeral hour.
