Mr. Billy Parks

Mr. Billy Mitchell Parks, Sr., was a native of Wilkesboro, NC where he was raised by his grandparents, Glenn and Beatrice Goins. Billy had one sister, Juanita Parks, all of whom preceded him in death. He departed this life on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at the age of 69.
He later moved to Winston-Salem, NC where he met and married Bertha Roseboro, of the city. Together, they had three children, Billy M. Parks, Jr., Benita M. Parks and Alice (Kevin) Lawings. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Anthony Roseboro, Lamont Joe, Robert Joe, Dwayne “DJ” Barkley, Jr. and Jalen Barkley; six great grandchildren; four sisters-in-law; six brothers-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bill was an active gardener during his later years. Mr. Parks worked and retired from Ilco-Unican after 37 years of service.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, June 4, 2011 in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home. The family will greet friends at 11:00 AM.

Mr. Freddie L. Jackson

Freddie Lee Jackson, 78, of Kernersville, NC, passed away Friday, May 27, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after a period of declining health.
Mr. Jackson was born February 1, 1933, in Darlington, SC and was a Korean era Army veteran. He moved to Winston-Salem in 1956. He retired from US Air (formerly Piedmont Airlines) after 34 years of service.
Mr. Jackson was a dedicated member of Reynolds Temple CME Church, where he was active on the Usher, Stewards, and Trustee boards, and served as church treasurer for many years. He was a generous and unselfish volunteer in the church and local community.
Mr. Jackson was a loyal member of the Prince Hall Masons and was elected and installed as Worshipful Master of Ionic Lodge no.72 in 2001.
Preceding him in death was his wife of nearly 49 years, Alexandra, parents, Levi and Eloise Jackson, brothers Herman, George, Levi Jr., and Robert, and sisters Marylee Samuel and Florrie Mae Smith. He leaves behind daughter Sandra Jackson of Alexandria, VA; sisters Magnolia Murray (Ben) of Richmond, VA; Eloise Johnson of Philadelphia; Ruth Turner of Buffalo, NY; and Rebecca Jackson, who cared for him for four years in Kernersville; in-laws Ben and Edith Roseboro of Winston-Salem; nieces, nephews, numerous grand nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday at St. John CME Church with Rev. Jack Brown, Jr. Pastor of Reynolds Temple CME Church, eulogist. The family will greet friends 30 minutes prior tot he service. Interment will be in Piedmont Memorial Gardens.

Edena M. Evans Dec. 28, 1928 ~ May 3, 2011 Mrs. Edena M. Evans of Springwood Care Home transitioned from labor to reward on Tuesday, May 3, 2011. Edena was born in Winston-Salem, NC on December 28, 1928 to the late George and Rosetta Maryland. Edena was a faithful member and diligent worker at Hanes Memorial CME Church for many years. Edena was preceded in death by her husband, George Evans, Jr.; two sisters, Hazel Lillian Maryland Simpson and Zula Maryland; one brother, James Maryland. Left to cherish her memories include sons: George B. (Annettia) Evans, III of Winston-Salem and James Maryland Evans of Dobson, NC; four daughters: Rose Clark of Wheaton, IL, Georgia (James) Connor, Adrienna Hairston and Keisha Evans, all of the city; fourteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, May 7, at Hanes Memorial CME Church, 819 N. Highland Avenue. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
