Ms. Claudette Fonville

 Claudette Fonville, a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend peacefully went home to the heavenly father on Saturday September 28, 2013.

She was born to the late Frank and Ann Thomas in Camden, New Jersey on April 28, 1955.

Claudette graduated from Camden High School and Wilford Beauty Academy. She was a professional cosmetologist and she later worked as a transcriber for the Camden Police Department.  She moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina 1998 and became a certified pharmacy technician.

She will always be remembered for her beautiful welcoming smile, infectious laugh, her great home cooking and amazing alto singing voice. She was a member of The Church of God and Saints of Christ.


Ms. Fonville is survived by three daughters: Belinda Thomas, Michelle Roseboro (Olander), and Sharon Fonville; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Deborah Calderon (Alcides) and Diane Thompson; a brother, Frank Thomas (Queen Ann); three nephews; a niece; an aunt, Janice Mapp; and many other family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am on Monday, October 7, 2013 in the chapel of Clark S. Brown and Sons Funeral Home. The family will greet friends thirty minutes prior to the service, at 11 am in the chapel.

Mr. Charles Morrison

Mr. Charles A. Morrison passed away unexpectedly at his home in Winston-Salem, NC on Tuesday, September 24, 2013.
He was born in Iredell County, NC to the late Roscar and Ina Rosby Morrison on December 1, 1944. 
Mr. Morrison was a graduate of Unity High School in Statesville, NC. He gave honorable service for his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was a “Trucker” for all of his life. 
Survivors include two daughters, Ericka R. Morrison and Pamela McWhorter; granddaughters, Genesis and India McWhorter; grandson, Gregory Foushee, III; his stepmother, Betty Walker Morrison; stepsisters, Barbara Ridley, Deborah Gray and Angela Daniels; a stepbrother, John Daniels, Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Graveside funeral service will take place at 1:00 pm on Monday, September 30, 2013 at Freedom Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 1321 Turnersburg Highway, Statesville, NC with military honors.

Mr. Harold B. Weaver

For I am ready to be offered and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith.  II Timothy 4:6-7

A father, grandfather, brother, and good friend, Mr. Harold Bess Weaver “Hallie Baby” departed this earthly life in the presence of his family at the home on September 24, 2013. Born on February 25, 1934 to the late Patterson Bess and Sarah Weaver.

He attended the Forsyth County Schools and later entered the military. He is a veteran of the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart. After his honorable discharge, he moved to Rochester, New York to live where he spent a lot of his adult life. Once returning to North Carolina, he reunited with and married his first love, Osceola Weaver and they spent 40 years together until her passing in 2008.

Mr. Weaver enjoyed making his family and friends laugh. He also enjoyed traveling with the Odyssey Club and attending WSSU football games. He was employed with Experiment in Self Reliance(ESR) and the State of North Carolina, where he retired. He took on part-time work with Budd Services, working at Integon and Sunrise Towers until his wife’s health declined. After his wife’s passing, he still was full of life and wanted to enjoy life by hanging out with friends and being the life of the party.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Weaver was preceded in death by his son, Carroll T. Woods, and a great grandson, Charles E. Walker III. He leaves great memories of his life to his three daughters: Sandra (Steve) Dunbar-Allen of Rochester, NY, Osceola (Billy) Higgins, and Nannette Taylor; two sons, Gregory Higgins and William (Diana) Higgins; twenty grandchildren, twenty-two great children, and fifteen great-great grandchildren, all of the city; one brother, Ralph Archie of Buffalo, New York, one sister, Frances Price, of the city; two God daughters Charlene Duncan and Gisele Jackson; two God sons Mike Pettigrew and Williams Carter, all of this city; a special friend, Eugenia Edwards, caregiver, Penny Scales; man’s best friend, Smooches’ Weaver and a host of other family and friends.  

The family viewing will be at 11:00 am in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home with the funeral following at 11:30 AM with  Dr. John C, McClurkin Sr officiating. Interment will be in the Salisbury National Cemetery. 

Mr. Nello Pittman, Jr.

Mr. Nello Pittman, Jr., of 1042 Thurmond Street, was born July 5, 1952 to the late Nello Pittman, Sr. and Mary Ann Transou Pittman. Nello graduated from North Forsyth High School and was a US Army veteran having served during the Vietnam War. He had a passion for gardening, NASCAR and working on cars.

He entered into eternal peace on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Pittman leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Drusilla Pittman; two sons: Nello Pittman, III and Abdul Pittman; daughter, Apryll Pittman-Ellis (Kenneth); sister, Beverly Pittman; three step-sons: Darius Whitson, Ron (Debbie) Whitson of Greensboro, and Robert Jarrett; nineteen grandchildren; four great grandchildren; an aunt, Clara (Marvin) Cremedy, three uncles: Fred (Shirley) Transou, of Lewisville, Allen (Pauline) Transou, Earnest (Kathy) Transou of Farmington; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, September 24th in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home. The family will greet friends 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will be in Salisbury National Cemetery.

Ms. Meredith L. McGee

Meredith Louisa McGee, also known as "Mere," was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on June 18, 1972, to the late Grady McGee and Wanda McGee Harrington. At an early age, she and her family moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina where she remained a lifelong resident.

She was the great niece of the late Bishop Eli Neal, founder of Saint Peter's Apostolic Church and was predeceased by her uncles, Charles Neal, Lloyd Gambrell and Sam Montgomery.

Educated in the public school system, Meredith received training in cosmetology, which became her passion. She later attended Forsyth Technical College where she received formal instruction as a Certified Nurse Assistant. Meredith spent the past several years of her life employed as a private duty nurse.

She loved her children and grandson, dearly. She will be fondly remembered for her fashionable hairstyling, manicures and love of music. On Monday, September 9, 2013, Meredith passed away unexpectedly.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children Paulanizia D. Davis, Kwame L. Crockett, Sr., and Chrishawn R. K. Crockett; a grandson, Kwame L. Crockett, Jr.; a brother, Timothy Neal (Ryoko); and two aunts, Queen Crosby and Pearl McClary; she is additionally survived by an extended family of first cousins and friends who were touched by her life.

A memorial service was held 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 19, 2013 in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home.

Mrs. Elizabeth P. Caesar

Mrs. Elizabeth Parks Caesar
December 24, 1910 – September 5, 2013
Mrs. Elizabeth Parks Caesar, affectionately called “Ma Bitty,” passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2013. She was born to the late Ruby Digsby and Abraham Parks in Jasper County, Georgia on December 24, 1910. She moved to North Carolina at a very young age and attended the public schools of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Mrs. Ceasar worked briefly at RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company and she was employed as a domestic in private homes for many years.
In the community she was a member of the Mahalia Jackson Community Outreach Program, Hanes Hosiery Senior Citizens and she was a member of OES, Sisters of Bivouac #530.
“Ma Bitty” was the oldest member of Kimberly Park Holiness Church, where she faithfully served The Mothers’ Board, Senior Choir, Sunday School and Missionary Department.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Quittie C. Caesar and two grandchildren, Brenda Howard Grafton and Ronald Caesar.

Those family members who survive and who will forever cherish loving memories of Elizabeth Parks Caesar include two sons, Samuel Howard and Jimmy (Mozelle) Caesar; ten grandchildren, Mary Howard Chisholm, Jimmy Caesar, Steven (Pamela) Caesar, Elder Alan R. (Deborah) Caesar, Ann Elizabeth Lyerly, JoAnne Dobson, Darren Caesar, Christopher Caesar, James Wilson and Richard (Cleta) Wilson; 21 great grandchildren; 40 great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; many other family members and a multitude of friends.
Funeral services will be held at Kimberly Park Holiness Church at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, September 11, 2013. The OES, Sisters of Bivouac #530 ritual will start at 12 noon and family visitations will begin immediately following.

Reverend George A. Glenn, Sr.

Rev. George Arthur Glenn, Sr. was born January 6, 1919 and departed this life on September 4, 2013. He was married to Viola Mae Washington who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a great grandson, Derrel Sanders.

Rev. Glenn was a faithful member of First Baptist Church where he was the Director of BTU for many years and a Sunday school teacher until his health declined. He also spent more than 50 years preaching to residents of Pell Care, Lutheran Home, Silas Creek Manor, and the Winston-Salem Convalescent Center.

Rev. Glenn was an honorably discharged veteran of the US Army having served during World War II.

Rev. Glenn was a general contractor by trade and was one of the main contractors of First Baptist Church on Highland Avenue.

Rev. Glenn leaves to cherish his memory, three children: Colistia Glenn, Arlinda M. Fulton and George A. Glenn, Jr., of this city; ten grandchildren: David (Tamiko)Fulton, Alisa Fulton, Urica Fulton, Terrance, Trovon and Viola Glenn, Keyanna Williams, Lalleh Williams, Kenyetta Williams, and Carlos (Keyra) Williams; thirteen great grandchildren: Tae’ Ana and Amiya Williams, Daquan Fulton,Carlon Williams, Amarion Glenn, Taurus, Tenika Johnson, Regan Wilkes, Trayonna Glenn, Tyeshia Williamson, Ta Cora, De Shaunie Glenn, and Essence Gregory; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ann Phillips; a host of nephews, cousins and special friends, Mrs. Thresa Duren of Winston-Salem, Mrs. Dorothy Unthanks of Baltimore, MD, Mrs. Grace Johnson of Buffalo, NY, Mrs. Essie Mae McGill, Mr. Raymond Miller and family.
