Mr. Warren H. Fulp

Warren G. Harding Fulp June 12, 1922 ~ Aprl 28, 2011 Someone once said, "Life is a journey, not a destination", and that is true. Susie Anna Coltrane Mitchell and Dave Fulp could not have imagined the path and journey that would take place as they marvelled at the sight of this, their only child, as they heard the midwife say, "It's a boy". Together they agreed to name him Warren G. Harding Fulp. His journey began in the small coal mining town of Winding Gulf, W.VA on June 12, 1922. That was just 88 years ago. Warren grew and developed into an active and ambitious young lad. He was nurtured by a loving family which included his parents, three doting sisters, Viola Mitchell Fitts, Bertha Mitchell Hughes, Sarah Elizabeth Mitchell Cooper; and five brothers, Luther Fulp, George Fulp, Thomas Fulp, William Mitchell and Garfield Mitchell; whom he inherited from previous marriages of both parents, all of them preceded him in death. At an early age, Warren and his family left W.VA to live in Pine Hall, NC. He was educated in the public schools of Stokes and Forsyth Counties. He attended Charles Drew High School in Madison, NC and Carver High School in Winston-Salem. He was enrolled in the C.C. Camp in Gibsonville, NC briefly and soon after he joined the United States Army as a member of the renowned Fighting Buffalos, World War II. This service carried him to many places in the USA, throughout Italy and to other European Countries. After the army, Warren's journey led to his educational pursuits. He was a graduate of Russell's Business College-Junior Accountant; La-Mae Beauty College and Modern Barber College. Careerwise Warren tried his hand at several jobs, however he was eventually hired at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. where he spent 39 years. He retired in 1983. For many years Warren has been an avid church worker. He was a faithful member of Galilee Baptist Missionary Church where he served as a member of the Trustee Ministry until his health declined and he was unable to continue. Athletically inclined all of his life and especially since playing basketball at Carver High School, he continued his participation in physical activities through his membership in the YMCA where he swam and worked out regularly. He also participated in sports activities with the Senior Games of Forsyth County. Warren's other active community involvement included membership in the NAACP, Branch #5471, The American Legion Post #220, and Skyland Park Community Club. One of Warren's proudest achievements was his outstanding tenure in the Prince Hall Masonic Lodge. He held office and membership in several chapters and levels of this Grand Order which include: Red Rock Lodge #809 (PHA), Holy Royal Arch, Eureka Chapter, Prelate #10 Knights Templar all of Walkertown, NC and Most Excellent Grand Chapter, Holy Royal Arch Mason (PHA) Jurisdiction of NC, and finally, Tarheel Grand Commander of Knights Templar (PHA) Jurisdiction of NC. Mr. Fulp was preceded in death by his wife and soul mate of 46 years, Mrs. Sarah Meeks Fulp in June of 2001. He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted and very special niece, Vera Covater Cooper Hillian and her family, who was reared by him and his mother from the early age of 18 months as their very own; a son, Leon Smith and his family; a daughter, Wanda Beasly Moore and her family.
