Minister Edna C. McLaurin

On Thursday, March 31, 2011, Minister Edna C. McLaurin exhausted all pain and suffering after a brief illness. Edna, 67, of 946 Taft Street, was born in Gulfport, Miss to the late Tilton and Ira Lee Widman. She retired from I.H. Caffey in 2007. Currently, in addition to being a homemaker, she often assisted her husband in their business, E&E Trim Shop. Mrs. McLaurin was a minister and member of New Trinity Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and two daughters, Mary Lousie and Dee Dee White. Edna is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 30 years, Earl McLaurin; two step-daughters: Pamela McLaurin Bares and Cheryl Renee McLaurin; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; her loving and devoted sister and caretaker, Tanzola “Penny” Fultz, other relatives and friends.

A homegoing service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, April 6, 2001 in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 1:30 PM until the service. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mr. Paul L. Hazel

For I am ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. II Timothy 4:6, 7. On Tuesday March 29, 2011 Paul L Hazel received his crown. He was the son of the late Rev. Charlie H. and Willie O. Hazel born August 13, 1939 in Pittsboro, NC. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charlie, Jr., sister, Ruth Cooke and son, Terrance Tate. Paul was a 1957 Graduate of Atkins High School. He attended Alabama State and North Carolina A&T State University. He later served in the United States Air Force from 1963 - 1969 and retired from the United States Postal Service in 2000 after 31 years of service.  He leaves to cherish a wife of 29 years, Geraline Hazel; a daughter, Torina Mathis of Charlotte; two sons: Paul, Jr. (Brigit) of Statesville and Tremayne  Melton of Charlotte; a God daughter, Adrianne McCollum of the city; four sisters:  Emma  Varner (Dozell, Sr.) of Jacksonville, FL; Naomi Hunter (Charles) of Las Vegas NV; Mary  Carter (Harold), Patricia  Broome of the city; one brother Samuel  Hazel of Dearborn, MI; Five grandchildren Terrance Jr., Samone, Janine, Cameron, Ivy and a host of nieces and nephews. Paul was a faithful member of Reynolds Temple C.M.E. Church for many years until his health failed. He served as Superintendent of Sunday School, Sunday School Teacher, Lay Leader, Senior and Men's Choir, Chairperson of Steward Board. He was an avid sportsman and long time coach of the YBA Blue Devils basketball team at the Winston Lake YMCA.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday April 2, 2011 at Reynolds Temple C.M.E. Church 2935 North Glenn Avenue. Family visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the Service at 1:00 pm. Interment in Piedmont Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Alma Kimbrough Jones

Mrs. Alma K. Jones, of 511 Brookway West Dr., passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2011 at WFU/Baptist Medical Center. She was a native of Lewisville, NC and a retiree of Wake Forest University. Mrs. Jones was a member of New Hope AME Zion Church.

She is survived by four children: Ronald Patterson, Gerald (Emma) Patterson, April Patterson-Worthy (Kerry), Jovita Jones, all of Winston-Salem, NC; five grandchildren: Quinton, Shapail, Marcus, Kyleigh, Joshua; one great grandchild, Nehemiah; one brother, Samuel (Nita) Kimbrough of East Bend, NC; two very close cousins: Bernice Tanner and Betty Jean Beamon; one devoted Goddaughter, Sissy Glenn; several other relatives and friends. Alma was an example of strength, kindness and beauty to all who knew her. We celebrate her life and rejoice in her homegoing.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, March 25, 2001 at New Hope AME Zion Church, Lewisville, NC. The family will greet friends 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Cora White

Cora Lee Bitting White, 92, passed away Monday, March 7, 2011 at Oak Forest Health Center. She was born November 6, 1919 to the late Bud and Cora Bitting. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Lee White, three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by four sons: Willie White, Jr., Sylvester (Ruby) Bitting, Sr., Bernard (Princilla) White, Sr., Richard Earl White, all of the city; two sisters: Gracie Stimpson and Carrie Ellis; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; a special God son, Anthony Parrott; several nieces and nephews; a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, March 15 at New Jerusalem Baptist Church with Reverend Samuel Cornelius, officiating. The family will greet friends thirty minutes prior to the service and interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
