Ms. Alice Bernice Miller Myers
September 14, 1943 – June 24, 2013


Ms. Alice “Bunny” Bernice Miller Myers departed this life on Monday, June 24, 2013 at Forsyth Medical Center, following a brief period of illness.

She was a life-long resident of the city and a member of Carver Road Church of Christ.

Alice leaves, not to mourn but to cherish memories of her life, a daughter Pamela Hairston King; three grandchildren, Viola, Trivon and Terrence Glenn; eight great grandchildren; three sisters, including her primary caregiver, Angela (James) Miller, Annie (Larry) Campbell and Irma Jackson; sister-in-law, Bobbie Hairston Miller and many other relatives and friends.

The family extends a special thanks to Senior Services of Forsyth County and Interim Health Care for helping Alice to maintain her dignity and quality of life in spite of her physical challenges.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, June 28, 2013 at Carver Road Church of Christ. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will meet with friends at 11:00 a.m., thirty minutes prior to the funeral service at the church.

Mr. James F. Henry, Sr.

Mr. James Frank Henry, Sr., 89, Rural Hall NC departed this life and entered into his eternal home on June 20, 2013. He was born on September 15, 1923 to the late James E. Henry and Daisy M. Henry Goode-Davis in Gastonia, NC. He was a lifelong resident of Rural Hall, North Carolina.

Mr. Henry was educated in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools and served in the United States Navy. He was employed and retired from Wake Forest University with 37 years of service.

Mr. Henry was a member of Stewards Chapel AME Zion Church, Rural Hall where he served as a Steward and Sunday school teacher.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Valentine Henry; son, Joseph Valentine; two grandsons, James Smith and David Henry; sister, Evangelist Rosa M. Peppers.

Surviving to cherish our most precious memories are: his devoted wife of 35 years, Susie J. Henry of the home; six daughters: Constance (Tyler) Hairston, Cynthia H. Smith, Carolyn (James) Tatum, Cathy (Travis) McGriff, Janet (Clifton) Wilson, Dr. E. Rebecca (Rickey) Caldwell-Carter; three sons: James (Theresa) Henry, Jr., Bruce (Lydia) Henry, Pastor Cedric (Vicki) Henry; one goddaughter, Gwen (Elijah) Wells; very devoted caregiver, granddaughter Tameka (Samuel) Montgomery, 17 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, four sisters, two brothers, two uncles, two aunts and a host of relatives and friends.

The Celebration of Life (Homegoing) service will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, June 24, 2013 at the Macedonia Worship Center, 500 Kinard Drive, Winston-Salem, NC. The family visitation will be held from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm. Interment will be in Salisbury National Cemetery on Tuesday, June 25, 2013.
