Mrs. Carolyn J. Dawkins

Carolyn Cleoteria Jenerett Britton Dawkins was born on January 27, 1949 in Winston-Salem, NC to Eli Jenerett and Thelma Caesar Jenerett. She entered rest on Monday August 29, 2011 after a battle with cancer.

Carolyn graduated from Atkins High School before receiving her nursing degree from Forsyth Technical Community College, where she graduated as the only minority in her class.

Ms. Dawkins worked in nursing home facilities throughout her career, spending 27 years with Kindred Healthcare. She was affectionately known as “Ms. Carolyn” by her co-workers at Silas Creek Manor, a Kindred Healthcare facility.

She was a faithful member of Mt. Calvary Holiness Church where she was a member of the Usher Board and the Missionary Board.

Her husband, James Dawkins; and her parents, Eli & Thelma Jenerett all preceded her in death.

Ms. Dawkins leaves to cherish her wonderful and beautiful memories a son, David Britton, Jr. and his wife, Liza, of Winston-Salem; daughters, Kristal Britton of Greensboro, NC and Alicia Barnes of Winston-Salem; a sister, Lynda Jenerett; brothers, Eli, Michael, Ronald, Travis, and Dedric Jenerett, all of Winston-Salem; the Elegant Ladies Savings Club members, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends. Her special cousin was Shirley Sowells, of Winston-Salem. Among her “Sisters in Christ” were Ernestine Dixon of Winston-Salem, Felecia Hester of Burlington, NC, Jan Ertzberger of Greensboro, NC and Cheryl Alston of Baltimore, MD. She will be dearly missed by her two beloved dogs, Bella Jade and Jacob Alexander Dawkins; and her “Grandpuppy” Bailey Jackson Britton.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, August 1, 2011 at Kimberly Park Holiness Church. The family will greet friends thirty minutes prior to the service. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mr. Jaicee C. Corbett

Jaicee Calvin Corbett passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2011. He was born January 1, 1934, in Cleveland County, NC to General and Mary Corbett. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict, and retired from RJR. “Pony Soldier”, as he was known, was also a brick mason and carpenter who owned his own business. He also held a fifth degree black belt in martial arts, and taught martial arts to many children and young adults. He was a friend to many and a good neighbor who shared his back yard garden. He held a great love for deep-sea fishing, and looked forward to trips with his fishing buddies.
“Papa San” leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Luseal Corbett; three sons: Leon (Stephanie) Stimpson; Vincent Westmoreland; and Jay (Blinda) Corbett; adopted daughter: Alana Hamilton; two grandchildren: Turquoise Corbett and Christopher Anthony; one great-grandchild: Brian Johnson; six sisters-in-law: Ozelle Holland; Mary Fields; Faye Davis; Kay Stimpson; Annie (Harry) Baylor and Janet Brown. Four brothers-in-law: Robert Stimpson; Joseph (Debra) Stimpson; Herbert (Patsy Stimpson); Allen (Rosemary) Stimpson; special friends: Robert Simmons, Chalmers Bohannon, Calvin Ward and Tony Barr; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A family visitation will be held from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Tuesdya, August 30, 2011 in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home.

Mr. Charles E. Leftwich, Sr.

Charles Edward Leftwich, Senior died Thursday, August 11, 2011 at Forsyth Memorial Hospital after an extended period of illness. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 19 at United Metropolitan Missionary Church with Reverend Prince Raney Rivers officiating followed by interment at the Salisbury National Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the church at 9:30 am, and the funeral will begin at 10:00 am.
 
Charles was born on November 28, 1929 in Bluefield, West Virginia to Margaret Ryan and James Russell Leftwich. He graduated from Kimball High School in 1948 where he played trumpet in the band and met his wife, Caroline Cunningham, whom he married in March 1957. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Army and traveled around the world.  He served tours in Korea and Vietnam where he received the Bronze Star as well as other military honors. In 1976, Charles retired after thirty years as a Command Sergeant Major and settled his family in Winston-Salem. He taught ROTC at East Forsyth High School before joining R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company where he worked as an administrator for ten years.
 
Throughout his life, he enjoyed volunteering with the Boy Scouts, and coaching soccer and baseball. He was active in his church, United Metropolitan, as a member of the Senior Choir, men’s chorus, Layman’s League, One Voice and the Senior Ushers. He enjoyed spending time with his family, barbequing, watching old westerns and war movies.  He was an emotional Dallas Cowboy fan. A loving and supportive father, his gregarious sense of humor will be missed by all whose life he touched.    
 
He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Caroline Cunningham Leftwich; children: Charles Edward Leftwich Jr., Cecil Leftwich (Mia), Carol Leftwich (Phil Hayden), and Carlton Leftwich; nine grandchildren: Ryan, Charles Edward III, Desmond, Cameron, Caroline Elizabeth, Cecil Jr., Meredith, Austin James and McKenna; one great grandchild, Xavier; one step-sister, Cookie; one aunt, Maxine Cooper, one special cousin who was like his sister, Yvonne Ryan Morris; and a host of Ryan/Leftwich/Cunningham in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
 
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the Endowment Fund of United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church in his memory.
