Mrs. Lucy A. Lindsey
Lucy Ann Stokes Lindsey was born September 28, 1923 in Rockingham county to the late Robert Douglas Stokes and Belle Martin Stokes. Mrs. Lindsey moved to Winston-Salem where she was a graduate of the public schools.
Mrs. Lindsey enjoyed cooking and baking. She was a loving mother and enjoyed caring for her children and others. Children were a joy to her, she loved to babysit for family and friends.
Mrs. Lindsey spent many years employed at Old Dominion Box Company. She was a member of First Calvary Baptist Church until her health declined.
On Friday, December 25, 2015, Mrs. Lindsey peacefully passed into eternal rest in Kernersville, NC following a period of illness. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by two daughters, Janice L. Purcell and Georgia L. Mills.
Those who are left to cherish special memories of her are: two daughters, Margie L. Graves and Jacqueline L. Hopson; one son, Danny Lindsey of Alabama; five grandchildren; two sisters and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home. The family will greet friends thirty minutes prior to the service. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mr. Steven M. Phillips, Sr.
Steven was born in England on April 20, 1961 to the late Samuel Phillips, Jr. and Sylvia Creed Phillips.
He attended the W-S/Forsyth County Schools, receiving his high school diploma and was certified as an electrician and welder at Schenck CCC in Pisgah Forest, NC. However his passion was food service. This led him to many years of management in the Restaurant Industry.
In addition to his father, Steven was preceded in death by his sisters, Florene Phillips and Marcia Campbell, and a special niece, Ceiera Phillips.
He leaves to cherish dear memories, his loving wife, Debbie Phillips; sons: Mark Phillips, Steven Phillips Jr. and Shannon Stockton; grandson: Jalen Stockton; mother, Sylvia Phillips; sister, Peaches Phillips; brothers: Roger (Cynthia) Phillips, Kevin Phillips (David), and James (Tracy) Phillips; Brothers-in-Law: William Campbell, Donald Stockton and Johnny Mucherson; Sister-in-Law, Cheryl Boggan; a host of special nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, December 27, 2015 in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home. The family will greet friends 30 minutes prior to the service.

Mr. Alfonza Harris
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Center Grove AME Zion Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Doris C. Woodruff
Mrs. Woodruff attended the public schools of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County and was a member of the 1958 graduating class of Atkins High School.
She began her early Christian education as a member of Red Bank Baptist Church where she actively participated with the choir and outreach ministries. She subsequently joined Ministries of Faith where she faithfully served with several ministries, including but not limited to the Pastor’s Aide, Senior Choir, Nurse and Usher Boards, Building Fund and Missionary Department. Her community involvement included membership on the Odd Fellows Cemetery Committee.
Mrs. Woodruff worked as a medical records specialist at Kate B. Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Reynolds Health Center and CenterPoint Human Services for a combined thirty-five years prior to her retirement. Afterward she took a position at Lankford Protective Services until declining health limited her ability to work.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, William Mitchell. Survivors include Joseph Woodruff, her husband of twenty-three years; two sons, Ronald (Drucilla) Clyburn and Byron Cheeks; granddaughters, Tia Hayes and Nakia Clark; great grandson, Kier Irby; two brothers, Donald (Ruby) Clyburn and James E. (Clara) Clyburn; numerous extended family members and many friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, December 19, 2015, at Red Bank Baptist Church. Interment will be at Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the church, at 11:00 a.m.

TRAVIS was the son of Ida Marie Page of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and Darryl Williams of Aurora, Colorado.
TRAVIS’ childhood experiences included living in the following places: Dillon, SC, Mullins, SC, Marion, SC, Thomasville, NC, Denver, CO, and Winston-Salem, NC, where he resided until his passing.
TRAVIS really was a people person who loved talking, laughing, and joking around. He loved having fun and could easily make one feel welcome. He also enjoyed cooking like his mother.
TRAVIS is preceded in death with a son, Travis, Jr.
TRAVIS leaves to cherish special memories besides his parents: Children, Ari’yanna and Nakirah; a sister, Shirika Lucky, Salisbury, NC; a cousin who is like a brother, Christopher Page, Durham, NC; grandparents, Shirley Graham, Aurora, CO and Willie Williams, Hope Mills, NC; an aunt, Cheryl McGhee, Fayetteville, NC: two uncles, the Reverend Clarence (Teresa) Page, Lumberton, NC, and Randy (Patricia) Page, Dillon, SC; a dear friend, Shirika Williams, and a host of relatives and friends.
Mrs. Lois Smarr Hanes
Lois Elizabeth Smarr Hanes was born to the late Robert and Annie Mae Mauney Smarr on June 6, 1925.
Mama grew up in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and graduated from Atkins High School at 15 years of age. She then enrolled at Winston-Salem Teachers College (WSSU) where she earned a bachelor’s degree in education.
She met our daddy, Norris Henry Hanes, while he was serving in the United States Army. They fell in love, married and became the proud parents of three children: Norris, Jr., “Teddy,” Lois Anne and Thomas Albert, “Al.”
Mama was a lifelong member of Grace Presbyterian Church where she served in many ministries of the church. Her favorite was singing in the choir! When she became ill and was no longer able to drive, she attended First Baptist Church (Highland Avenue) with her daughter.
Grandma began her professional career teaching in the public schools of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County. And she eventually went to work for and retired from Fairchild-Burns Company. Mama was active in the community and played a vital part in the founding of The Best Choice Center and East Winston Restoration Association. Her social activities included membership in the Pollyanna Club.
Mama was a generous and caring person. She loved her family and made sure that each of them knew how important they were to her. She loved and respected all who knew her. We will miss Mama!!
“Great” peacefully transitioned from this life on Wednesday, December 2, 2015. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert, Jr. “Bubba,” and Forest.
Along with her devoted and loving children, many memories of Mama will be cherished and shared by her children-in-law, L. Faye Price Hanes, John Young, Jr., and Judie Carpenter Hanes; her grandchildren; Norris III, Adrian, Shonta Young Sellers, Okeyma Young Wright, Thomas Jr., Devin and Delana; 12 great grandchildren, who lovingly called her “Great,’ and her dog, Willie, who she called her “little boy.” She is also survived by her only uncle, Lander Mauney; her cousin, Earline Penn; many great cousins who loved her dearly and longtime friends who became extended family members.
A Memorial Service for Mrs. Lois S. Hanes will be held at First Baptist Church (Highland Avenue) on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 11:00 am with Reverend Dr. Darryl Aaron officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice and Palliative Care of Winston-Salem are requested.
