Mrs. Roxie D. Jones

Mrs. Roxie Della Pledger Jones, 95, of Pfafftown, NC departed this life on Friday, December 30, 2011 at her residence. She was reunited in her heavenly home with her late husband, Alfred Edward Jones; her parents, Reuben C. Pledger,Sr. and Nola B. Pledger; one brother, Reuben C. Pledger, Jr. and seven sisters: Gretchen Horne, Myrtle Armstrong, Dorothy Armstrong, Treva Cundiff, Dollie Gladden and Virginia Bailey.

Born April 11, 1916 and raised in Pfafftown, NC; the 1st of 9 children. She was a faithful, life-long member of Bethlehem A.M.E. Zion Church. A
stranger to none, and a friend to all. Mrs. Jones was the grandmother to many “adopted” grandchildren which led her to be known simply as “Granny” to most.

She leaves to cherish her memory: one sister, Callie Pledger (Clyde) Howell of Tobaccoville, NC; two daughters: Peggy Jones Norris and Pamela Jones (Eddie) Suber, both of Winston-Salem, NC; two grandchildren Travis D. Norris of Winston-Salem, NC and Tonya Suber (Donald) Meisenbach of Johns Creek, GA; two great-grandchildren, Rodman E. Shah and Rachelle N. Shah, both of Johns Creek, GA.; a host of adoring extended family and friends.

A service in her memory will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at Bethlehem AME Zion Church. There will be a private interment in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Mamie Louise Glenn

Mrs. Mamie Louise Joyce Glenn
April 23,  1921  -   December 23, 2011

On Friday December 23, 2011, in the early morning hours, Mrs. Mamie Louise Glenn was called home to be with her Lord and Savior. She was a devoted Christian and member of Piney Grove Baptist Church for 90 yrs. She remained faithful to her church until her health declined. 

Mrs. Glenn was born in Winston-Salem, the daughter of the late Reverend John T. Joyce and Mrs. Lomia Summers Joyce.  She was educated in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and was one of the first graduates of Carver High School.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by  her first husband, Hampton R. Gillian and remarried, Mr.  Robert Glenn; three brothers: Charles, Calvin and Jeff Joyce   She  leaves to cherish her life and memories: sister,  Mrs.  Bessie  J. Bright;  nephews: James Joyce ,  Andre Bright and Cedric Bright (Maria); nieces;  Marie Rezab (Wayne), Barbara Tillery (Odell), devoted stepdaughter, Linda Holloway and special friends, Dilcy Brady and Minister Velma Rematha Harris along with  many  great nieces and nephews and  a host of  family and friends.

The funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon, Friday, December 30 at Piney Grove Baptist Church with Rev. James  Linville officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be from 11:30 AM until the funeral hour.
 

Mr. Raiford L. Hairston

Mr. Raiford Leon Hairston, Sr. entered into eternal rest to be with the Lord our Savior on December 23, 2011.  He was born November 29, 1923 to the late Joseph and Carrie Hairston, the last of seven children.
Mr. Hairston was a World War II veteran, having served in France, Africa and Germany and was  decorated with the American Defense Service Medal, EAMET Campaign Medal, Bronze Service Star and WWII Victory Medal. He was a retiree of Lucent Technology (formerly Western Electric).
Raiford was married to the late Janie Mae Smith Hairston and from this union he is survived by six sons: James (Marcella) Smith, Ronda, Terry, Raiford Jr. (Arneita), Richard (Sharon) and Nathaniel Hairston of Charlotte, NC; three daughters, Marie Smith, Dorothy Story and Wanda (Collin, Sr.) Morrison, all of the city; thirty grandchildren, sixty-six great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by God-children, Lonnie & Eleanor Glenn; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, December 29, 2011 in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home. The family will greet friends 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment with military honors will be held at Salisbury National Cemetery.

Mr. Charles W. Snow

Charles Walter Snow was born December 17, 1932 in Forsyth County to the late Harry L. Snow, Sr. and Evelyn A. Wright. Mr. Snow expired on December 22, 2011 at his residence after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Snow was a retiree of R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company and enjoyed hunting as a sport.

Charles was predeceased by his parents; one sister; two brothers; and two uncles. He is survived by his spouse, Mrs. Gloria C. Snow; a step-daughter, Mrs. Tracy (Phillip) Smith of Morrisville, NC; a son, Mr. Justin R. Snow of the city; a special niece, Ms. Wendy Snow of Charlotte, NC; a grandson, Zion J. Snow of the city; an aunt, Ella Ruth Archie and uncle, Willie Byrd Archie, both of the city; a host of other relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service was held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 24, 2011 in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home.

Mr. Ernest LeSaine

Mr. Ernest LeSaine, 64, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2011.

He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps and the Army Reserve, retiring from the Veteran’s Administration.

Mr. LeSaine is survived by his wife, Carnella “Connie” LeSaine; his children: Carnella Dunlap, Eric LeSaine, Isaac (Desherie) LeSaine; grandchildren: Stephen, David, Angelia and Jachael; a great grandchild, Tha’Mia; sisters: Lela Witherspoon, Delores Gorham, Georgella LeSaine, Lillie Mae Shuler and Mable Dingle, all of South Carolina; two brothers: Larry and Emanuel LeSaine of South Carolina; sisters-in-law: Cynthia LeSaine and Juanita (David) Cannady; brothers-in-law: Norman (Jaqueline) Dunlap, Vernon and Carl Dunlap and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at Macedonia Worship Center with Apostle S.D. Johnson, officiating. The family will greet friends 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will be in Salisbury National Cemetery.


 

Mrs. Geraldine J. Crosby

Blessed are they that do His commandments that they may have right to the tree of life and may enter in through the gates into the city.” (Rev. 22:14)

Geraldine Joel Crosby was the first born daughter of the late Trenton and Mary Joel. She attended the local public schools and later moved to Bridgeport, CT, where she spent her adult life. She was married for over 50 years to the late Jesse Crosby, who passed on to Glory in 2009.

Geraldine was very active in her church, East End Baptist Church in Bridgeport, CT, until her health declined. She was preceded in death by two brothers; four sisters; three brothers-in-law; one grandson; and one great grandson.

She leaves to cherish her memories: two sisters, Helen Joel Robinson, of the city and Mary Joel Jester of Bridgeport, CT; one brother, Comillus (Ruth) Joel of Bridgeport, CT; one brother-in-law, William Wallace; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Joel of Fayetteville, NC; two daughters, Bernice Joel (Richard) Gambrell of the city and Shirley Joel (Albert) DiPasquale of Mayer, AZ; two grandchildren; four great grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a devoted cousin, Diane Mills and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 PM on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church with Bishop John Parks, officiating. The family will greet friends 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will be in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Walkertown, NC.

Mr. Donnell Wynecoff

Mr. Donnell “JT” Wynecoff, aka The Godfather, was born to the late Joseph and Nannie White Wynecoff on October 2, 1927 in Winston-Salem, NC. God sent an angel to bring him home on December 7, 2011.
 
Donnell attended the local public schools and was employed with RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company where he retired after 30 years of dedicated service in 1986. He later owned and operated “The Laundromat” on ML King, Jr. Drive. He was an active member of Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church and a former member of the Stewards Board and the American Legion. Mr. Wynecoff was an Army veteran and served in World War II.
 
He was preceded in death by three brothers: Joseph, Jr., Willie and Prelow; six sisters: Emmy Clymer, Louise Betton, Catherine Wharton, Elizabeth Oliver, Helen Judkins and Cornelia Howell.
 
Surviving are: his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Dorothy Ellis Wynecoff; daughters, Dr. Debra Wynecoff-Ogden of the home and Constance (Connie) Smith of the city; 3 grandsons: Christian (Lauren) Smith, Garry Ogden, Jr. of Conyers, Ga., Timothy Williams, Jr.; 4 great grandchildren: Jordan, Chloe and Cydney Smith and Sophia Ogden; a sister, Doris (Robert) Thomas of Shaker Heights, Ohio and numerous special relatives and friends.
 
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Monday, December 12, 2011 at Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Parklawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Thomas J. Rhynehardt

Mr. Thomas Junior Rhynehardt, born November 22, 1920 departed this life on December 5, 2011. He was born to the late Isaiah and Lovie Rhynehardt.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Millie Rhynehardt.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter-Martha (Robert) March of Winston-Salem, NC and his son-Harrell Rhynehardt of Mocksville, NC; one brother-Odell, Sr. (Gracie) Rhynehardt of Newton, NC; two sisters: Gracie Carter of Columbus, Ohio and Dorothy Jackson of Hartford, Connecticut; 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; 17 great great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at The Redland Church of Christ on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 2:00 PM. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held immediately after the service at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Robert and Martha March, 3140 Parrish Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27105.
