Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on October 30, 2012 in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home at 727 Patterson Avenue in Winston-Salem, NC for Mrs. Helen Harrington Soney, 89, of 740 Motor Road. She died October 25, 2012 at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem of natural causes after a brief period of illness.
She is survived by three children, Linda K. Jones and Robert Quincy Harrington, both of the city and Dr. Ralph G. Soney (Yolanda) of Greenville, NC. She leaves behind three grandchildren, Dedrick Denard Jones and Anjonette Harrington Wade both of the city and Garrit Harrington Soney of Greenville, NC. She was blessed with three great grandchildren Destiny Jones, MaKayla Jones and Cameron Wade and one great, great grandchild KaMauri King Jones. She is also survived by numerous wonderful nieces and nephews especially one who regularly ministered to her during her days of declining health, Ms. Jean Salter of Charlotte. Though too many to mention she loved and cherished the many nieces and nephews who knew her affectionately as “Aunt Helen.” Born in Winston-Salem she was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret Brown Harrington and Chester Harrington. She was also preceded in death by seven siblings: Ethel Mae Harrington, Hazel Jones, Betty DuBose, John Wesley Harrington, Waymon Harrington, James Edward Harrington and Lewis Junior Harrington.
In 1989, she retired from the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System where she worked in food services at several schools over 20 years. She was a faithful member of the original Spencer Memorial Christian Church until ailing health prevented her from attending on a regular basis. She was a member of the senior choir. After Spencer Memorial became Messiah Community Christian Church she continued her association with the new church, being ministered to by faithful members well up until her death, such as Ms. Daisy Chambers, Ms. Beulah Hoover and Ms. Bert Sercey. Mrs. Soney loved her God, her children, her family and her neighbors and friends. She touched many and lived a long and happy life. In many of her associations and affiliations she stood as the last survivor until she went to be with the Lord. We rest in the assurance that she is happy, having been reunited with her mother, father, sisters, brothers and many friends.
The family will receive friends at 12:30 PM at the funeral home on October 30, 2012, interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Rest in peace Mama.
