Ms. Deve' L. Smith

Ms. Deve’ L. Smith was born to Patrical Little and Alonzo Dennis in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on January 15, 1971.
She was educated in the public schools of Winston-Salem and completed the requirements and earned her high school diploma at Forsyth Technical Community College in that city.
Deve’ was happy and full of life. She took her role as “sister-mother” very seriously and without restraint she demonstrated her unconditional love for her children. She was an independent, strong-willed woman who was not afraid of hard work.
She enjoyed gardening and decorating and she loved to travel. Deve’ had a willing heart and she always offered a helping hand. She was positive, never complained and she was known to speak truthfully.
Her work history was varied. She lived in Georgia for a brief period of time and she finally settled in Virginia where she worked for Stihl, Incorporated for over ten years before declining health ended her ability to work.
Following a period of illness, Deve’ passed away at Sentara Hospice House in Virginia Beach, Virginia on Saturday, June 7, 2014.
In addition to her parents, those family members who survive and who will forever cherish loving memories of Deve’ include her daughter, Keewanee Little; her son, Reginald Salaam; a sister, Rachel Perry; a brother, Ronnie Ray Perry, Jr.; in-laws, Wali (Sarah) Salaam; former husband, Reginald H. Salaam, Sr.; close friend and caregiver, Harold Franks, “Drew;” and her “devoted angel of a caregiver and friend,” Darlene Spence; several ex-tended family members and many friends.
A funeral service was held at 12:30 PM on Saturday, June 14, 2014 in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home. The family greeted friends 30 minted prior to the service.
