Mrs. Lola Jones Spease

Lola Jones Spease, was born in Murfreesboro, North Carolina on January 1, 1925. The second child born to the late Arlinda Lewis Jones and Lonnie Russell Jones. She departed this life on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Moses Cone Hospital following a period of illness.

She attended River View School in Murfreesboro, NC and graduated top of her class from Calvin S. Brown High School in Winton, North Carolina. Lola graduated from NC Agricultural and Technical State University majoring in Home Economics and double minored in Science and Art. After graduation, she did further studies in Fashion and Interior Design.

Lola owned and operated Spease’s Sewing Shop in Murfreesboro, NC and Spease House of Treasures in Greensboro, NC. She spent most of her life self-employed and loved her work.

Mrs. Spease held membership in Beta Iota Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; Guilford County Home Economics Club, The Alpha Wives, Greensboro Historical Society, Greensboro Christian Women’s Club and Gate City Chapter of NC A&T State University Alumni Association. Mrs. Spease was also an active member beginning in February, 1988 of the American Association of University Women, where she served as Communications Officer (Secretary) from 1993-1995.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Jarvis Jones.

Lola is survived by her husband of nearly 64 years, Jacob A. Spease; sister, Hattie Lawrence; brother, Johnnie R. (Theressa) Jones; three God children: Lori Harris, Donna Harris and Kevin Harris; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, April 7, 2013 in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home, Winston-Salem, NC. The family will greet friends 30 minutes prior to the service. The Alpha Kappa Alpha Ivy Beyond the Wall ritual will be held at 2:00 PM. Interment will be in Center Grove AME Zion Church Cemetery, Tobaccoville, NC.
