Evangelist Roberta Groves

Evangelist Roberta Sarah Foster (Carlton) Groves, Our mother, grandmother and sister went home to be with our Lord and Savior on April 27, 2013. Roberta Sarah Foster (Carlton) Groves was born on May 17, 1929 in West Virginia to the later Cletus Foster and Gladys Martin Foster Howell.

Evangelist Groves graduated from Gary District High School in Gary West Virginia and she attended Piedmont Bible College and Winston-Salem State University. She received her degree in Theology from Winston Salem Bible College. She retired from Chapman and Company. Her past positions consisted of Housekeeping Administrator at Knollwood Hall Nursing Facility and Teachers Aide for Forsyth County School System.

She was an active member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church Ministry and also contributed years of service at Shiloh Baptist and St. Stephens Baptist Church. Her service years to God included playing piano, church choirs, Sunday school teacher, community ministry, preaching ministry, and writing and performing the historical play “Look Where He Brought Me From”.

She was married to the late Charlie Carlton of Wilkesboro and the late Robert Groves of Winston-Salem. She leaves her children to cherish her memories, Candice Carlton Ray, Charles Carlton, Reverend Steve Carlton, and Eddie Carlton of Charlotte, NC; Mitchell (Shannon) Carlton , Ronnie Carlton, Drake Groves (Sherry) and Alexander Groves of Winston-Salem, NC; Sharon (Donald) Thomas and Kathy Carlton of Raleigh NC; one Brother, Robert Foster of Jonesville NC and a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A service honoring her memory will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, May 3, 2013 at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. The family will greet friends from noon until the funeral hour. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
