Mr. Jacob A. Spease

Mr. Jacob A. Spease died on Monday, July 28, 2014 at Alamance Regional Hospital in Burlington, NC. He was born to the late Jacob Oliver Spease and Gertie Stimpson Spease in Tobaccoville, NC on April 19, 1926.

Mr. Spease attended the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and graduated from Carver High School in 1944. He received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from NC A&T State University in 1952 and gave honorable service for his country in the US Army during WWII.

Mr. Spease and his wife, the late Lola Jones Spease, were devoted to their family, their church and their community. He was a faithful member of Bethany Community Church in Sedalia, NC where he was recently named Trustee Emeritus. He was a member of the Gate City Alumni Chapter of NC A&T State University, a brother in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Kappa Lambda Chapter and a member of the Board of Directors of Hayes-Taylor YMCA in Greensboro.

Mr. Spease retired from Sears in Greensboro after more than thirty years of dedicated service to the company.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his two sisters and seven brothers. Survivors include his daughter, Fidelia Spease-Sturdivant (Gino) and grandchildren, Gina and Desmon of New Jersey; goddaughter, Lori Harris; sisters-in-law, Norma Jean Spease and Hattie Jones Lawrence: brother-in-law, Johnnie R. Jones; several nieces and nephews, including his special caregiver, Constance Brown; cousins, extended family members and many special friends, including Chris and Angela Totten.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Clark S. Brown and Sons Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Center Grove AME Zion Church Cemetery in Tobaccoville. The family will greet friends for thirty minutes at Bethany Community Church in Sedalia following the Omega Service by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity at 12 noon.
