Mr. David Dillard, Jr.

Mr. David Dillard, Jr. peacefully transitioned from this earthly life on Monday, September 29, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center.
He was affectionately known as
“June Pie,” and was the only child born to the late David Dillard, Sr. and Ada Mosely Dillard in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on April 18, 1935. He attended the public schools of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County and graduated from Atkins High School in 1953.
David married the former Larn Perry on July 5, 1958 and their union was blessed with the birth of a daughter, Debbie.
He was employed by RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company and retired following thirty-five years of dedicated service to the company. Following retirement, David became an activity bus driver for the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System.
Mr. Dillard was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church where he gave service to the New Bethel Mass Choir, Laymen’s League and Outreach Ministries. He was a respected member of Olympic Lodge #795, Sethos Temple #170 and King Solomon Consistory #64.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Viola Belton Dillard. Survivors include Larn Perry Dillard, his wife of 56 years; his daughters, Debbie (Wayne) Thomas and Sharon Simmons; two granddaughters, Airis DaNa`e and Ajada Tsieg`e Thomas; sister-in-law, Ruby Perry of Saint Albans, NY; brother-in-law, Robert (Ophelia) Perry; sister-cousins, Hazel Dillard Black and Elizabeth Dillard Speight; goddaughter, Erica Garvens; god grandchildren, Allen and Arianna; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 12 Noon today at New Bethel Baptist Church. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at 11am at the church. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.

The family extends a special thanks to Dr. Charles Stinson, The Palliative Care Unit of Forsyth Medical Center, Ms. Angela Burton and Mr. Carlos Sawyer for the professional and compassionate care that they provided.
