Mrs. Catherine B. Murphy

Mrs. Catherine Boston Murphy, 85, passed away at home, Sunday, January 25, 2015. She was born February 21, 1929 to Nathaniel “Bud” Boston and Leeanna Sherald Boston in Winston-Salem, NC. Catherine attended the public schools. She received her spiritual upbringing at Mount Olive Baptist Church where she was an active member for many years.

Mrs. Murphy spent most of her adult life working here in the city. She retired from R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company with over 30 years of service in 1989. After retirement, she spent several years as caregiver to her elderly mother. After caring for her mother, Catherine became very active in many hobbies. She loved to create beautiful ceramic pieces, make quilts, sew, cook and do home renovations and decorate. She enjoyed reading, learning new technology, traveling, hosting parties and cookouts for family and friends. Her most favorite and loved activity was spending time with her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She had a “personalized” relationship with each. She practiced unconditional love and acceptance with all and tirelessly worked to help, encourage and support us in whatever we were involved in. Over the years Catherine was active in many clubs and social organizations. She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Elizabeth Chapter 310, until her health declined.
