Mr. Gregory J. Wilson, Sr.
Gregory Jerome Wilson, Sr. was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to the late Thelma P. Wilson and Willie Perry Wilson, Sr. on July 20, 1952.
Gregory was a graduate of Atkins High School in Winston-Salem. He enlisted in the United States Army and completed his basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He served for two years, based in Hamburg, Germany, and was honorably discharged from military service on October 7, 1974.
Gregory was an avid fisherman and pool player. He won several trophies at the Red Gate Boxing Club in Walkertown, North Carolina, under the leadership of his father, the late Willie Perry Wilson, Sr.
He passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. In addition to his parents, his sister, Deborah Wilson preceded him in death.
Gregory is survived by five children, Gregory J. Wilson, Jr., Monte’ Wilson of California, Tracie Harrell, LaCoshia Alston and Lawanda Wilson, his beloved “Daddy’s Girl;” a stepson, Arthur Shields; two brothers, Willie P. Wilson, Jr. and Kenneth (DesMona) Wilson of Gastonia, NC; four sisters, Pamela A. Wilson of Yadkinville, NC, Beverly Tillman of California, Cynthia J. Wilson and Adriane (Demetrious) Jones; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home. The family will greet friends 30 minutes prior to the service in the chapel. Interment will be in Salisbury National Cemetery prior to the service.
