Mr. Elbert D. Thacker


Mr. Elbert Delano Thacker, Sr. was born to Esther Butler and the late Willie Hipps in Bronx, New York on June 11, 1950.
He was educated in the public schools of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County and graduated from A. H. Anderson High School in 1968. Following high school graduation he attended Winston-Salem State University.
Mr. Thacker began his early Christian Education when he joined and was bap-tized at Mount Olive Baptist Church. He later joined the fellowship of First Thes-salonians Baptist Church where he faithfully served as a member of the Board of Deacons. And he frequently worshipped at Union Baptist Church, all in the city of Winston-Salem.
He held two jobs for several years, he worked as a computer operator at Integon Insurance Company (GMAC) for over twenty-five years and he retired from the housekeeping department of Wake Forest University Baptist Health in 2012.
Elbert Delano Thacker, Sr. passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, following a period of illness. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandmother, Christa Bell Hipps.
Those family members who survive and who will forever cherish fond memories of him include his daughter, Jamilah Sinkler; two sons, Elbert D. Thacker, Jr. and Damien Thacker; his granddaughter, Zion Thacker; his mother, Esther Butler; two sisters, Carol (Fred) Wilson and Christie Davis; three brothers, Anthony Thacker, Ronald Michael Thacker and Gregory Butler, Sr.; a very special and devoted friend, Jessica Starke; a hosts of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
