Mrs. Betty Z. Harris
Mrs. Betty Ziglar Harris (aka “Chris”) passed away at Baptist Hospital on Friday, July 26, 2013.
She was born in Rural Hall, NC to the late Bertha Ziglar and Chris Walker on November 18, 1932.
Mrs. Betty Harris, “Chris” was a member of St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church for more than 50 years. She later joined Greater Galilee Baptist Church.
She retired from Bowman Gray School of Medicine after 30 years of dedicated service. Following retirement she worked for the National Labor Board and Christian Carolina College. Mrs. Harris was a member of the St. Mary’s Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Harris, Sr.; a son, Ferlandrus “Alexander” Harris; two sisters, Stella Oakes and Bertha Reynolds; six brothers, Charles, Oscar, Archie, Levi, Alonzo and Ranzy.
Survivors include her three children, Charles E. Harris, Jr., Doris “Charlene” (Aaron) Oliver and Maurice L. Harris, Sr.; sister, Margie R. Reaves; sister-in-law, Mary Frances Barr; three grandchildren, Chante E. (Verena) Taylor, Sr., Maurice Harris, Jr., and Shamar Harris; three great grandchildren, Monica Taylor, Chante E. Taylor, Jr., and Christine Taylor; a host of nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 1:00 pm at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Robert L. McGowen, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 pm at the church.
