Mrs. Mary N. Mitcham

Mary Ann Neely Mitcham departed this life Friday, January 21, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center.  She was born February 27, 1924 in Lancaster, SC to the late Henry Neely and Maude McIlwain Neely.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. James A. Mitcham and sisters; Janette McKinzie and Estelle Neely.  Survivors are nephew Freddie L. Byrth, great nephew, Freddy A. Byrth (and wife, Laura), stepchildren: Phyllis Cannon, Elaine Wynn, and Paul Mitcham, goddaughter Gloria McIver and other relatives and friends. Ms. Mitcham received a BS Degree from Winston-Salem Teachers College (now Winston-Salem State University) and a Masters Degree from the University of Virginia.  She was a school teacher at the elementary and secondary levels in Virginia and retired from the Mount Airy City School System.  She was an active and faithful member of Grace Presbyterian Church and served on multiple committees in the Salem Presbytery.  She was a member of Church Women United, Les Amies Civic Club and the Red Hat Society. 

A brief memorial service will be held at Grace Presbyterian Church at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 27, 2011.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church, 3901 Carver School Road, Winston-Salem, NC, 27105.
