Ms. Yvonne Jefferson

Ms. Yvonne Dean Berrow Jefferson, affecitonately known as “Mrs. J”, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2013 at Springwood Care Nursing Facility. She was born on July 8, 1948 in Tylertown, Mississippi to the late O.D. Forrest and Charlene Gloria Dean.

Mrs. Jefferson attended Atkins High School. She was a former employee of he Winston-Salem Housing Authority, where she gave leadership with the Happy Hill Gardens Residents Against the Involvement of Drugs (RAID) and the community after school program. She also served on the Board of Commissioners of the Housing Authority of Winston-Salem (2005-2008).

Mrs. Jefferson was the Overseer and Evangelist for Compassion for Christ Church until declining health limited her active participation.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Delores Gloria Jefferson and two sisters: Nelda Jean Dillion.

Mrs. Jefferson is survived by three daughters: Vernita, Toni, and Charlene Jefferson; four sons: Jeff, Michael, William and Tyrone Jefferson; fifteen grandchildren; five brothers: William (Mary) Dean, George, Laurence and Charles Berrow, and Mark Williams; one aunt, Mildred Dean of New Orleans, LA; special friends, Tony Ray Crosby and the Byers Family and many of her “baby cakes” and the Happy Hill Gardens Community.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 9, 2013 in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel.
