Mrs. Elizabeth E. Bethea

Mrs. Elizabeth Exum Bethea, formerly of Winston-Salem, passed away on June 26, 2012 in Matthews,NC. She was born on July 15, 1919 in Goldsboro to the late Henrietta and Pete Exum. She was the seventh of ten children, seven siblings preceded her in death. In addition to her parents and siblings, Elizabeth was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard T. Bethea in 1988.
She attended the local schools in Goldsboro and was a graduate of Shaw University.
Professionally she was a beautician and owner of Libby’s Beauty Box in Brooklyn, NY. She also worked as a nurses assistant for over 15 years at Amos Cottage. Mrs. Bethea was very active in the Winston-Salem community. She was previously a member of Carver Road Church of Christ. She and her husband were members of the Foster Parent Association of Forsyth County, where she served as president for three years.
In addition to being a loving wife, mother and foster parent, she was an excellent cook and gardener.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, LaNette F. Bethea of Charlotte, NC; two brothers, Wilford E. Exum of Warrenton, NC and Charles L. Exum of Raleigh, NC in addition to a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, numerous foster children and friends.
She was a wonderful spirit whose caring nature touched everyone with whom she came in contact.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Sunday, July 1, 2012 in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home. The family will greet friends 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will be in the Historic Salisbury National Cemetery at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 2, 2012.
