Mrs. Phyllis M. Kimber

Phyllis Martin Kimber, daughter of the late Les Martin and Ella Townsend Martin, was born in Ellerbe, North Carolina. She departed her earthly life for eternal life on Monday morning, August 16, 2010 at North Carolina Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem, NC. Her professional employment career spanned more than forty years as an elementary and middle school teacher. In her leisure time, Phyllis enjoyed cooking and traveling.
She was also known among her family, friends and co-workers as an outstanding cook and organizer of family events. As a baker, she was perhaps best known for her pound cake and apple pie, which were always in demand. Phyllis was a member of the General Missionary Ministry, having served as the secretary for numerous years and very active in several of their ministries for over 36 years. She was also a member of the Phi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Phyllis leaves to cherish her memory and legacy of love, her husband of forty-four years, Robert Calvin Kimber; two children, Emily Marie and Robert Martin Kimber; one sister, Henrietta Malloy Wheeler; four brothers, James Arthur, Willard, Earl (Jeannette) and Leslie (Rita) Martin; three grandchildren, Michaela, Monet, Shamayla, and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
