Mr. Sandy R. Payne
Sandy Revonne Dobson-Payne, 66, of Columbus, passed from this life at 2:30 a.m. Thursday, October 22, 2015, at his home.
Born December 9, 1948, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Mr. Payne was the son of Sandy Augustus and Mary Syfonsbia Dobson Payne. He married Nancy J. Starks July 18, 1983.
Mr. Payne was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1998 and he was an auctioneer with Wetzel, Turner & Payne.
Sandy was a member of St. John CME Church and he was instrumental in getting the Dobson family reunion started in Winston-Salem. His true passion was auctioneering and his hobbies included genealogy and antiquing.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Nancy; his father, Sandy A. Payne of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; daughters, Aleesha Payne-Wilson of Atlanta, Georgia, Monique Payne-McNeely of Plano, Texas, and Cathy Payne-Chairs of Tulsa, Oklahoma; stepsons, Charles Curtis Long and William Kelly Long, both of Columbus; 11 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; sisters, Vaughnita Solomon and Patrice Adams, both of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; brothers, Timothy (Pat) Payne of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and Ervin (Rita) Payne of Winnipeg, Canada; a special friend, Leighton Turner of Edinburgh, IN; and a host of other family members and friends.
Mr. Payne was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Syfonsbia Payne; his first wife, Claudia Anderson; a sister, Mary L. Drummond; and grandparents, Ervin and Janie Dobson.
A funeral was held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Rev. Ray Ware officiating.
Family and friends may call from 1 p.m. until service time Tuesday.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, October 30, 2015 at St. John CME Church. Interment will be in Gardens of Memory, Walkertown with military honors. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.
