Mr. John A. Anderson
Mr. John A. Anderson passed away at Forsyth Medical Center on Tuesday, March 11, 2014. He was born to the late John A. Anderson and Theodosia Henderson Anderson in Rock Hill, South Carolina, on May 20, 1922.
He was educated in the public schools of Rock Hill and the family moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 1943.
Mr. Anderson was the owner/operator of Johnnies Shoe Shop in downtown Winston-Salem. The shop opened in 1946 and was one of the oldest Black owned businesses in the city. It remained in full operation until declining health prevented Mr. Anderson from the daily routine of working in his shop. He was a faithful and dedicated member of Mount Zion Baptist Church.
Mr. Anderson is survived by Earline H. Anderson, his wife of 59 years; sons, David L. Barksdale and John Earl (Dianne) Anderson; daughter, Pamela A. Anderson; 11 grandchildren, including loving care givers, Candace and John Anderson, III and Ameja Smith; three great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; good friends, Samuel Porter, Calvin Harris and Leon Leaper; several nieces, nephews, extended family members and his Trade Street Art District Family.
Funeral services will be held at Mount Zion Baptist Church at 12:00 pm on Monday, March 17, 2014. The family will visit with friends in the Chapel of Clark S. Brown and Sons Funeral Home on Sunday Evening, March 16, 2014 between 6:00-8:00pm. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery.
