Mr. Alfonza Harris

Mr. Alfonza Harris, affectionately known as “Big Al” entered this life September 30, 1948 the youngest child of Archie and Annie Bell Harris. Saturday evening, December 19, 2015 surrounded by his family he quietly transitioned to his heavenly home. A native of Wilson, NC, his family relocated to Winston-Salem, NC when he was eleven years old. He attended Atkins High School and Forsyth Technical Community College. Alfonza was a mechanic for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, retiring with more than 37 years of service. After retiring, he became a transport driver for Modern Toyota for ten years. Alfonza was a faithful member of Center Grove AME Zion Church, Tobaccoville, NC. In June, 2015 he proudly acknowledged his wife as his pastor and joined her at Hickory Grove AME Zion Church, Clemmons, NC. His “gentle giant” stature will always be cherished by his wife of 41 years, Rev. Belinda S. Harris; two sons: Alfonza Lamar (Sharita) of Prince George, VA and Adrian Harris of Knoxville, TN. “Papa” was loved by his five grandchildren; four sisters: Lillian Johnson, Beulah Hart, Ernestine Joyner and Barbara (Ed) Woodward of Wilson, NC; two brothers: William (Ramatha) Harris and John (Deloris) Harris of Tobaccoville; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Center Grove AME Zion Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.
