Mrs. Carolyn J. Dawkins

Carolyn Cleoteria Jenerett Britton Dawkins was born on January 27, 1949 in Winston-Salem, NC to Eli Jenerett and Thelma Caesar Jenerett. She entered rest on Monday August 29, 2011 after a battle with cancer.
Carolyn graduated from Atkins High School before receiving her nursing degree from Forsyth Technical Community College, where she graduated as the only minority in her class.
Ms. Dawkins worked in nursing home facilities throughout her career, spending 27 years with Kindred Healthcare. She was affectionately known as “Ms. Carolyn” by her co-workers at Silas Creek Manor, a Kindred Healthcare facility.
She was a faithful member of Mt. Calvary Holiness Church where she was a member of the Usher Board and the Missionary Board.
Her husband, James Dawkins; and her parents, Eli & Thelma Jenerett all preceded her in death.
Ms. Dawkins leaves to cherish her wonderful and beautiful memories a son, David Britton, Jr. and his wife, Liza, of Winston-Salem; daughters, Kristal Britton of Greensboro, NC and Alicia Barnes of Winston-Salem; a sister, Lynda Jenerett; brothers, Eli, Michael, Ronald, Travis, and Dedric Jenerett, all of Winston-Salem; the Elegant Ladies Savings Club members, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends. Her special cousin was Shirley Sowells, of Winston-Salem. Among her “Sisters in Christ” were Ernestine Dixon of Winston-Salem, Felecia Hester of Burlington, NC, Jan Ertzberger of Greensboro, NC and Cheryl Alston of Baltimore, MD. She will be dearly missed by her two beloved dogs, Bella Jade and Jacob Alexander Dawkins; and her “Grandpuppy” Bailey Jackson Britton.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, August 1, 2011 at Kimberly Park Holiness Church. The family will greet friends thirty minutes prior to the service. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
