Mrs. Dorothy S. Johnson

Dorothy Mae Shuford Johnson commenced her life’s journey in Winston-Salem, N. C. on May 2, 1927, born to Adolphus Griffin and Odessa Leach Shuford Freeman.  She departed this life Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Preceding her transition were her spouse, Leo B. Johnson, parents, and sister, Helen Shuford. She was a graduate of Atkins High School Class of 1944, Star Stenographic School and Russell’s Commercial School. Upon her retirement from Westinghouse, she volunteered with The Red Cross and Meals on Wheels.

Dorothy was a former member of Second Calvary Baptist Church.  At Union Chapel Baptist Church, she was a member of the Sunday School, Senior Missionaries, and the outreach ministry in Liberia, Africa. Reaching out to others and encouraging them to “Stand on His promise” were her ministries.  She was active with The Carver Senior Citizens Club, Democratic Party, The Westinghouse Retirees Club, Rho Zeta Amicae and The Northwood Estates Neighborhood Association. 
Left to cherish her memory are daughters; Joycelyn V. Johnson, Deltra J. Bonner (Horace), Millicent J. Oliver (Herbert); son, Leo R. Johnson (Lisa); grandsons, Frederick L. Johnson (Joy), Anthony J. Bonner, Justin B. Oliver, Brandon M. Johnson; granddaughters, Ӓngela J. Bonner and Lauren R. Johnson; sister, Wyvetra S. Carter; nieces; nephews; cousins, extended family, and friends. Special thanks to Forsyth EMS, WS Fire Station 12, the physicians and staff in the Emergency Department, 6th Reynolds and the ACE unit at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. 
Visitation on Friday from 6PM-7 PM at Clark S. Brown and Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services at 1pm Saturday at Union Chapel Baptist Church. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery.
