Mrs. Lorrain R. Rorie

Mrs. Lorrain Rousseau Rorie transitioned from this life to eternal life on Monday, August 16, 2010 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born August 8, 1937 in Adah, PA and was the devoted daughter of the late James Rousseau and Nettie Rousseau Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Jacqueline Rorie Higgins. Mrs. Rorie was a graduate of Atkins High School and attended Winston-Salem Teachers College. She was a retired employee of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. Mrs. Rorie was an active and faithful member of Zion Memorial Baptist Church until declining health. She served as Deaconess and was a former Sunday school teacher. She was past president of Missionary Group #1. Mrs. Rorie was also a member of Eastern Star Meridian Chapter #308 O.E.S. Prince Hall Affiliation and a member of the Golden Circle, King Solomons Assembly #64.

She leaves to mourn her loss her loving husband of 56 years, Henry Thomas Rorie; daughter, Ramona Griffin (Byron); son, Henry Thomas Rorie, Jr. (Pamela); stepspn, Aaron Wellman; sister, Nettie R. Dixon; brother, James A. Rousseau (Jean); brother-in-law, Harvey Rorie (Geraldine); 8 grandchildren: Tremaine Rorie (Shaketha), Lauren Griffin, Brenton Griffin, Charlisa Griffin, Henry Thomas Rorie, III, Tamera Rorie, Ashley Willoughby, Sakieo Williams; 6 great grandchildren: Makayla Griffin, D’Aaron Miller, Tequila Miller, Sakeio Williams, Jr., Kalasia Williams, Rishawn Harris, Jr. and several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the caring staffs at Forsyth Medical Center, Salem Dialysis Center and Mrs. Margaret Briston for her loving daily care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Zion Memorial Baptist Church for the Jacqueline Rorie Higgins Scholarship Fund.

The funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Zion Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Joseph Jones officiating.  Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Garden Cemetery.  The family visitation will be held 30 minutes prior to the service.
