Mr. Earl W. Wharton

Mr. Earl Wayne Wharton, age 78, of East Bend, NC passed away Friday July 18, 2014 at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. He retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company in 1987 after 33 years of service.
Mr. Wharton was a faithful and devoted member of Glenn’s Chapel AME Zion Church for his entire life. He served as Superintendent of Sunday School, Sunday School Teacher, Pastor Steward and as members of both the Deacon and Trustee Boards.Mr. Wharton was also a devoted and active member of his community serving as member of the East Bend Ruritans, board member of the Richmond Hill Law School, president of the Forbush High School Boosters club, baseball coach and mentor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe C. and Joyce S. Wharton.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Ida; three children: Earl (Jennie) Wharton, Janet Parsons and Lisa (Azariah) Moore; six grandchildren, Darren (Mary Jo) Wharton, Brian Wharton, Justin Parsons, Vera Moore, Maya
Moore and Danielle Moore.; four great-grandchildren, Jayden Wharton, Dylan Wharton, Kaylee Wharton and Arianna Moore. He also leaves to cherish his memory a special uncle, Mr. William (Watina) Wharton and aunt, Mrs. Carrie T. Shore and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday July 22, 2014 at Glenn’s Chapel AME Zion Church with the Rev. Anthony Davis officiating. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
